We’ve all been waiting in anticipation after Glock announced that they’d be announcing “something big” on December 10th. Well, today is that day and anyone who got the email announcement got to sit through a sort of webinar showing off exactly what they’re giving us for this new model year.
While we were all making guesses with each other just what the new releases would be, I’m not sure any of us really saw this coming. I know I didn’t see it coming. The new G44 is a 22LR chambered pistol that’s the same size as the G19.
While I’m not entirely sure what all the hype was about, I do see a benefit to this pistol. The main benefit I can see is that newer shooters will be able to transition into a G19 or other similar sized self-defense pistol easier after gaining confidence with this one.
Another benefit is that more experience shooters will be able to train with a much more affordable ammunition using the same ergonomically correct pistol that they carry for self-defense or competition purposes. Here is an excerpt from the press release we were all sent after the webinar ended:
