300 Blackout History:
The 300 Blackout is essentially an intermediate, 30 caliber centerfire rifle cartridge. This 30 caliber cartridge, or 7.62X35mm, is a popular rifle round due to its effectiveness in AR-15s with a suppressor.
The 300 BLK, as it’s sometimes called, got its start from the 300 Whisper (which was developed in the 1990s).
Then in 1994, the Advanced Armament Corporation, or AAC, was founded. AAC would then go on to manufacture the 300 BLK in conjunction with Remington. The round was officially approved by SAAMI in 2011.
It received tremendous support and is one of the most popular modern sporting rifle (MSR) calibers produced today. At least part of its popularity is due because of its ability to go subsonic for suppressor usage, or supersonic when you need that extra velocity and energy.
300 BLK Guns:
We all know that the AR-15 is the most popular rifle for this cartridge. But there are also bolt guns, AR pistols, and a lot of AR-15s by most of the manufacturers.
300 BLK Uses:
The 300 Blackout rifle cartridge excels in personal and home defense because of its ability to be suppressed very well, and is also a great option for hunting up to medium sized game. Because of this, all of the best AR-15 manufacturers make rifles for this caliber.
300 BLK Cost:
The 300 Blackout tends to be an intermediately priced AR-15 cartridge. While it tends to be more expensive than 5.56 NATO, it’s slightly less money than others like 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC.
Of course, this is a rough comparison based on the ammo shortage we’re currently in and real prices will be different once availability goes back to normal.
