Dallas, TX — An 84 year old man who has already been robbed once shot a home invader who attempted to break into his home.
Officers responded this past week to a residence near Loop 12 and Interstate 35E at about 1:30 in the morning.
The elderly man asked to have his ID and picture withheld, and said he must have looked like an easy target, which is why he’s been robbed, almost twice now.
However, what the crook didn’t know, is that after the last time he’d been victimized during a robbery the man made the decision to not let it happen to him, ever again.
When he heard someone trying to break in to his house, where his wife was sleeping, he grabbed his gun and shot at the armed would-be intruder several times, striking him.
After the last time he was robbed he said he decided, “It won’t happen to me again.”
So the 84-year old man grabbed his gun when he heard someone trying to break into the house where his 76-year-old wife was sleeping.
The attempted intruder got away, but police seized the gun to compare it to the gun-shot wounds of a man who authorities later found at the hospital.
Analysis:
This is a great story. We don’t know all the details, but we don’t really need to. The first step is to always have access to your gun. I carry in my home, but most people aren’t even awake at 1:30 in the morning, let alone carrying a gun.
He was able to get to his gun and protect his sleeping wife from someone with unknown intentions. And, as an 84 year old man with likely shakier than average hands, he landed shots on target.
He had his gun and knew how to use it. Make sure you get to the range this weekend, to get some much needed practice in.
