The governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam (D) has declared a state of emergency in the state citing “credible intelligence” of threatened violence.
This state of emergency will place a temporary ban on people from carrying firearms and other weapons to include sticks, bats, chains, and other projectiles on Capitol grounds until the Tuesday following the pro gun rally scheduled on the 20th.
At a press conference held today, Northam said that police believe “armed militia groups plan to storm the capitol” during the event and have “intercepted extremist rhetoric” in line with what was seen at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, in 2017.
According Vice.com, the Facebook page for the rally says that people indicate that they’re planning to bring their guns anyway–to which the mayor of Richmond said that “violations of the law will not be tolerated.”
The event organizers have said from the start that they want this to be a peaceful event.
There isn’t a way to know how many people will be in attendance of the event, but estimates ranging from 5,000 to 100,000 people will be there. It’s expected to be somewhere in between, as we’ve heard reports of people coming in from as far away as West Texas in support of Virginians and their gun rights.
While this is a news article, it is our opinion that Northam is a dumb-ass who falsely dishes fault out to the pro-gun folks for his reasoning behind this decision to turn Virginia into a state of emergency. When, in fact, if he’d have just left gun owners alone, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion right now.
If you’re a gun-grabbing Virginia lawmaker reading this right now, I strongly urge you to rethink this idiocy before you get good people hurt.
