FN Recently announced the release of their newest pistol line, yes you read that correctly: This is a confirmed new lineup of pistols from the battle proven firearms manufacturer. While they won’t really tell me what that means, we can all guess that it’s something along the lines of a compact/subcompact line of guns, likely ranging in different calibers.
I recently got a chance to catch up with some of the folks from FN at the 2017 NRA Annual Meetings (NRAAM), and what follows is what I found out.
The 509 takes a lot of cues from its FNS brethren, with just enough changes to make it different. It comes with a 4 inch barrel, a 17 round magazine, and the only option currently available is in 9mm parabellum. As a side note, for those of you who live in a more unfriendly gun state, there are also 10 round mags, as well to help you conform to the crappy laws in your state.
Furthermore, the FN 509 is taken to a new level with front and rear deep-cut serrations, 3-dot luminescent sights, a new grip texture pattern that I think is an improvement, and an ambidextrous slide release.
Check out the following video I got from one of FN’s employees, and if I remember correctly, someone who even helped design the FN 509 pistol. Here’s the video:
