The .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire is a .17" caliber rimfire cartridge descended from the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire cartridge. It was developed by necking down the .22 Magnum case to take a .17 caliber bullet. Commonly loaded with a 17 grain bullet, it can deliver muzzle velocities in excess of 2550 fps. It is widely considered to be the one of the most accurate of the rimfire cartridges. Hornady introduced this cartridge in 2002 to the public. There are now three excellent bullet weight loadings for this cartridge that allows the shooter to fine tune their rimfire performance using this cartridge. The .17 HMR is a very solid 150 yard performer and depending on load choice flat bullet trajectory can be expected out to 200 yards.
Cartridge case length is 1.058".
