Bullet Trajectory And Sighting Plane Explained:

 1. Point Blank Range: when sighting in a rifle is the first point at which the line of sight intersects with the bullets path in the bullets trajectory.

 2. Mid-Range Rise: when sighting in a rifle is the highest point in the bullets trajectory between the point blank range and true zero.

 3. True Zero: when sighting in a rifle is the second point at which the line of sight intersects with the bullets path in the bullets trajectory.

 4. Maximum Point Blank Range: when sighting in a rifle is the height of the mid-range rise and the bullet drop beyond true zero, both are equal in measure.
Varmint, 1" high mid-range rise, 1" low maximum point blank range, 2" target.
Deer, 2" high mid-range rise, 2" low maximum point blank range, 4" target.
Elk, 3" high mid-range rise, 3" low maximum point blank range, 6" target.
Moose, 4" high mid-range rise, 4" low maximum point blank range, 8" target.

Once your hunting rifle is properly sighted-in for your intended target size, you simply aim at center of target all the way out to where you have determined what your maximum point blank range is. All bullet impacts will then be inside of your pre-determined target size, beyond your point blank range.
